Out in the county
Plenty of our Alvin installs are on acreage off Highway 35, where there's no gas line. The house runs on propane, a well and a septic tank, and each of those changes the job. Condensate from the new coil can't go into the septic. Heat becomes a choice between a propane furnace and a heat pump (heat pump systems start at $7,500 installed). Before we start anything new, we check the disconnect and fuse rating on the circuit shared with the well pump. A marginal shared circuit tends to make itself known in August.
Country attics are often tight, so coil placement matters. We set it where a tech can actually reach it for service later.
A workshop or converted garage gets its own Mitsubishi mini-split. Hanging an outbuilding off the house system loads equipment that was never sized for it.
In town: small closets and flat drains
Downtown Alvin's bungalows went up from the 1950s into the 70s. Most still have the original ducts and a mechanical closet about the size of a pantry. Premier is a variable-speed Trane, from a dealer that has held Trane Comfort Specialist status since the 1990s. When only the condenser or the coil has failed, replacing it starts at $4,800. Every option lands on one written sheet with the out-the-door price, and CenterPoint rebates may apply to the higher-efficiency ones.
