The right thermostat, wired right.
A smart thermostat is only as good as the wiring behind it. We install Nest, Ecobee and Honeywell models with the C-wire your system needs, set them up for your equipment, and walk you through the app before we leave. Plenty of the DIY installs we get called to fix were wired or configured wrong, and the AC was short-cycling because of it.
- Nest, Ecobee, Honeywell certified
- C-wire install included
- Heat pump configured correctly
- App walkthrough on every install
What's included with smart thermostats
This is what comes with a smart thermostat install. Most of the value is in the wiring and the installer settings.
Pre-install equipment check
We look at the existing thermostat wiring and your equipment type and check for a working C-wire. You find out which thermostat fits your system before anything is ordered.
C-wire installation if needed
Plenty of older Pearland homes have no C-wire, the constant 24V line a smart thermostat needs. We pull a new one from the air handler or add a transformer or power adapter. Batteries are not a fix.
Equipment-specific configuration
Set up wrong for a heat pump or a two-stage system, a smart thermostat will short-cycle the equipment. In the installer menu we set equipment type and stages, reversing valve polarity, lockouts and minimum cycle times.
App setup and home WiFi
We connect the thermostat to your WiFi and register it in the manufacturer app. Then we set up the schedule and geofencing with you. It has to work on your phone before we go.
Disposal of the old thermostat
Old mercury-bulb thermostats should not go in the trash. We take them with us for proper disposal at no charge.
Multi-zone and multi-system installs
Two thermostats, or three zones? We install and configure them together so the schedules and geofencing make sense across the house.
Reasons to upgrade
A smart thermostat can trim your Pearland power bill, but only if it is wired and configured for the equipment it runs. These are the situations where it pays off soonest.
- Old non-programmable or mercury thermostat
- Existing programmable thermostat is hard to use and you ignore the schedule
- You have a heat pump and an old thermostat that does not handle it well
- You travel often and want remote control
- You want energy reports to see where your money is going
- You added solar and want to optimize HVAC against your production
- You replaced your AC or furnace and the new system has features the old thermostat cannot use
- A previous DIY smart install is glitchy or cycling oddly
How a visit works
Four steps. No surprises. Same on your first call as your fiftieth.
-
Pick the right thermostat
Nest, Ecobee and Honeywell are the three we install most. We help you choose based on your equipment and your budget, and on the smart-home setup you already use (Apple HomeKit, Google Home or Alexa).
-
Schedule the install
Most installs take 60 to 90 minutes. We can usually get to you the same week, and often the same day for current customers and Clear Advantage members.
-
Install, configure, test
Wiring first, including a C-wire if needed, then the equipment settings and WiFi. Before leaving we run heating and cooling to confirm both modes work and the cycle times look right.
-
Walkthrough
We show you the app and the schedule, then how to override it. A 5-minute walkthrough is the difference between a thermostat you use and one you fight with.
- $99 Diagnostic visit ($79 for new customers), waived when you approve the repair
- Free In-home estimates on new systems
- Same price Nights, weekends, and holidays. No overtime fees.
What Pearland neighbors are saying
"Jadin showed up about 30 minutes after I talked to him on the phone and got right to work checking all of the systems. He determined that our thermostat needed replacing. He was very polite and friendly. He quickly and efficiently did the replacement and we were back in business."
"Angel, a new trainee, was thorough & precis with our heating system check up. He gave us details of what was checked & suggested a few things to be addressed in the future. He & Michael, his trainer, then replaced our old thermostat in the hallway & explained the functions & settings."
"I had Jacob Fletcher as my AC technician and he was able to diagnose and fix my AC issues with ease. Honestly, I don’t write reviews on Google ever, but Jacob deserves it. He explained the diagnose in detail, answered my questions, and even went ahead and cleaned up some of my AC unit’s wiring without charging extra."
Frequently asked
How much does a smart thermostat install cost?
It depends on the thermostat you pick and whether we need to run a C-wire. We check your wiring first and give you one all-in price, thermostat included, before we start.
Will any smart thermostat work with my system?
Almost any. Heat pumps and dual-fuel systems are pickier than a single-stage AC with a furnace, and so is multi-stage equipment. We confirm compatibility first. Ecobee and Honeywell tend to handle complex systems well, and Nest works on most setups with a few exceptions.
What is a C-wire and why does it matter?
The C-wire is a constant 24-volt power line from the HVAC equipment to the thermostat. A smart thermostat needs steady power for its WiFi radio and screen, and a lot of older homes never had one run. Without it you get dropped WiFi and short-cycling. We install one when needed.
Do smart thermostats really save money in Pearland?
They can. How much depends on your habits. If you used to leave the AC at one setting around the clock, the savings are bigger than if you already ran a schedule. Geofencing, which sets the AC back when everyone leaves the house, does most of the work.
Nest vs. Ecobee vs. Honeywell, which is best?
Nest has a nice display and learns your habits, but it offers the fewest installer settings. Ecobee gives the installer the most flexibility and supports room sensors, so we reach for it on complex systems. The Honeywell T-series is what we put in rentals because landlords want something simple. We will recommend one for your setup.
I tried to install one myself and now my AC short-cycles. Can you fix it?
Yes, we see it a lot. It is usually a wiring mistake or an installer setting that does not match your equipment. Sometimes there is no C-wire and the thermostat is stealing power to make up for it. One visit usually sorts it out.
Will it work with my heat pump?
Yes, all three brands handle heat pumps, but the setup matters. Reversing valve polarity (O or B) has to be right, and so do the auxiliary heat lockouts and compressor minimum-on times. Get those wrong and the heat strips run far too often, which gets expensive.
Can I have multiple thermostats on one app?
Yes, all three brands put several thermostats in one app. It helps in two-system homes or with separate upstairs and downstairs zones, and we set it up at install.
